New York November 13 reports show wholesale butter prices rising with grade A butter at 80 cents per pound, up one cent from yesterday. The market continues an upward trend over the past two weeks as supply and demand shift in favor of higher quotes across major markets.

Free school programs by Rubino to be held at eight schools including McAllister Cordley New York Liberty Memorial junior high Pinckney Woodlawn and Lincoln with a Rotary club appearance at 12 40 p.m. Proceeds finance a South Park children’s wading pool scheduled for spring and summer construction.
Chicago police report Michael Kosar aged 42, once a key witness in the 1943 E Rumbold Real Estate vault robbery case, was killed at his west side residence while dining with his family. His wife Florence was minorly wounded. Kosar and six co-defendants had earlier faced large sentences and probation for the $2 million heist.
Ponca City Oklahoma hosts a football coaching gathering as Sazhawker staff plan a meeting with the Ponca City Quarterback Club tomorrow evening. Kansas party travels from Lawrence to Stillwater for Friday game a day after departure.

In Marseille on November 13 troops and mobile guards patrolled the streets after communist labor leaders called a general strike following rioting that left one dead and six injured. Most workers stayed at their jobs though seamen and port unions led walkouts and food packers joined. Shipping halted as strikes spread from fare protests to wider labor action. A Rhone Delta council meeting was set to decide on honoring the strike, potentially affecting a 60 mile industrial coast area.
Paris dispatch reports flour mill workers in France walking off the job seeking a 20 percent salary rise. Several thousand labor at Bobigny Corbeil and near Paris push for bonuses and better conditions, with bread rations already tight.

Phelps guiding the process, aiming for a report after next week. The investigation continues from July, after indictments were issued against 31 persons.

The nine township agricultural conservation association committees will be chosen in county elections November 25. Each township will elect three members two alternates and a delegate to the county convention which will elect a three person county committee. Eligible voters include participants in the 1947 program owners operators and tenants and those with Federal Crop Insurance contracts. Polling places to be announced later. Committees administer federal programs select conservation practices allocate funds and handle price support operations including commodity loans and purchases.
About 25 social welfare workers from seven northeast Kansas counties attended an in service training conference at the Chamber of Commerce office today. Miss Marveal Burroughs led a discussion on eligibility for old age assistance with Mrs Mildred Watson and Commissioner Elmer Ousdahl representing Douglas county.
Quail hunters opened the Kansas season reporting a large crop but fair shooting. Most parties failed to reach the 10 bird limit, with some hunters reaching the full limit. A few accounts praised sharp shooting and noted birds were widely scattered across cover.
University of Kansas officials report funds on hand at L.U. will push the Community Chest over the 22 275 quota. Mayor James Drwale lauds workers and the drive for Boy and Girl Scouts, Y.M.C.A. and other groups with extra funds slated for veterans housing, Christmas, Fourth of July, and a new arts and crafts festival. Glasgow expects at least 1 008 over the quota to be carried to next fall.
A musical program by four University of Kansas students was featured at a Kiwanis Club meeting. D. M. Swarthout directed the program from the School of Fine Arts. Soloists included Merie Clayton on cello, Maxine Dunkelberg on piano, Shirley Sloan on clarinet, and Curtis Glover on baritone. Shirley Dean spoke on Education Week.
