Yugoslav prison guards refuse work amid riots and unrest
Yugoslavia saw guards walk off at three major prisons demanding better conditions and an end to riots that have unsettled the new government. They said they would only guard perimeters, refusing to reassert control in cellblocks even after mutinies ended. In Algeria a 5.4 magnitude quake killed two women and injured twelve in Bougaa and Chemini. Rescue teams labored as two four story Naameh buildings collapsed leaving six dead. A seven hour search led to the safe recovery of seven month old Mouna Khan. Wafiq Mezher, owner of the buildings, was arrested in Lebanon while attempting to flee with family.

Yemen foiled plots against Americans prior to Cole bombing
Yemeni sources say at least three plots against U S targets in Yemen were thwarted in the year before the USS Cole attack.
