City health adds swine flu clinic for high risk groups

The city county health department adds a 2:30 to 6 p m swine flu clinic for elderly and high risk individuals at Babcock Place. It will use the New Hampshire street entrance and offer only the bivalent vaccine for those 45 and over and with chronic illness.

HRC to Host Meeting on Minority Business Aid and Contracts

Lawrence HRC will meet Monday at 8 p.m. in the City Commission Room. Lloyd Shepard of the Kansas Office of Minority Business Enterprise and Willone Eubanks of the Topeka Minority Contractors Assn will speak on minority business aid and construction contracts. Jayhawk Audubon Society gathering follows at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at South Park Recreation Center with KU ecologist Robert Hoffman presenting on The Yellowstone Grizzly Bear. Arizona leads in national monuments with four in the state.

Kan sas Dean Del Brinkman Appears on Tonight Show

Del Brinkman dean of Kan sas University's School of Journalism made a cameo on NBC-TV Tonight Show in Los Angeles during a national journalism society conference. He sat with Stewart Brann and Lynda Smith both seniors from Great Bend and Hoisington respectively. None of the trio were asked to name a tune for the band.

Shelling returns to Beirut as truce collapses again

Heavy shelling flared in Beirut between Christian and Muslim factions despite Syrian troops surrounding the city to uphold a three week old cease-fire. The Far East Lawrence Improvement Assn plans a special Dec 2 meeting to discuss comments on the Haskell Loop environmental impact statement. Members debated polling all members if the loop is voted on, with a board meeting to resolve FELIA by law conflicts before Dec 2.

Kansans Celebrate 100th Anniversary and 200th Bicentennial

Homer Socolofsky addressed about 150 people at the Douglas County Historical Society meeting in Eldridge House.
