Heavy shelling erupted, with insurgent guns battering the center and northwest approaches. W J Small Hay and Grain is converting green rye into meal at its northeast town plant for American Butter to mix with semi solid buttermilk as chicken feed. Over 100 acres harvested, about 40,000 pounds dry meal produced. crop yields are below normal due to dry weather and rough fields. Project may continue 3 to 4 weeks, with 50 to 600 more acres to harvest depending on weather. Dehydrated rye adds vitamins A and other nutrients and closely matches green feed in poultry diets.
