Allied forces resume offensive on multiple sectors after a war lull. Reports indicate heavy resistance along portions of the line, with advances slowed by fortified positions and enemy counterattacks. Officers warn the conflict remains volatile as reinforcements press forward.
News wires report United Nations troops piercing the northwest front in Korea with a four mile advance from the Chongchon area. American and British units face very heavy resistance while air and naval support targets supply lines and bridges along the Yalu.
Blustery winds haunt Southern California as a quick-spreading brush fire in the northwest San Fernando Valley razed 1,000 acres, forcing many families to flee and threatening homes of Veronica Lake and Lionel Barrymore. About 350 firefighters from Los Angeles and Ventura counties battled the blaze, while below freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees challenged citrus belt towns. A separate 4,500-acre blaze near San Diego damaged homes and groves, with one unoccupied ranch house destroyed. A death at sea was reported as Preston Johnson, 43, of Huntington Beach, was found two miles off Santa Catalina Island after his boat My Maria reportedly wrecked in high seas. Residents of San Bernardino cleaned up debris as wind-whipped fires left damage to homes.

In Vallejo California a young sailor Milo W. Sutton 21 elected to the Kansas House asks leave to attend sessions only. His commanding officer Lt Cmdr J C Ball Jr wires for guidance. Sutton a five year sub veteran volunteered at Korea and returned to Mare Island with his sub Entemedor. His wife Erna and their two daughters stay in Emporia with his parents.
A well-baby conference will be held at Washington Creek church on Monday November 20. Registration runs 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. for examination and immunization of infants and preschool children. P. F. Parsons about 25 of Route 6 was accidentally struck in the eye by a stray shot while pheasant hunting near Smith Center. He was taken to Concordia hospital in satisfactory condition. Relatives expect to bring him home tomorrow. Doctors fear some sight loss but expect the eyeball to remain. Parsons’ wife and young daughter were visiting relatives when the accident occurred.

A neophyte scanner Sgt Grant Turbeville makes his first polar flight.
Edmund Thomas Arnold age 82 of 429 Tennessee street died last night at Lawrence Memorial hospital from a heart ailment after being stricken October 24 while raking leaves. Born April 24 1868 in Perkinsville Vermont he moved to Lawrence with his mother in 1878 and worked various trades. He married Maud Thompson in 1888 and celebrated a golden anniversary in 1948. Surviving are his wife a daughter and a grandson. Funeral service set for Monday at 3 40 p m at Rumsey funeral home with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Pallbearers named.
About 45 officers from seven counties gathered at the Community Building for the district officers training school hosted by Douglas County Rural Life. Representatives from Jefferson Shawnee Leavenworth Atchison and Johnson counties attended with county agents. Classes were led by staff from Kansas State University in Manhattan. The group dined at The Hearth before the program.

Hong Kong police repelled an attack by a Chinese gang named the Yellow Ox on passengers arriving from Canton at Shumehun on the border. The attackers fled after stoning police. authorities found no communist link and noted the gang retreated into red China. No casualties were reported.
