Death of Chicago musician’s wife sparks police hold

In Chicago, Angslo Dagostino, a musician, was detained after the sudden death of his bride of about a month. Insurance on both wives drew suspicion. a post mortem on the second wife was ordered. The first wife held $500 life coverage, the second wife $1,000, with Dagostino alleged to have taken a $23,000 policy later.

Union call in coal regions pledges refusal after April

A complete canvass of Lackawanna Schuylkill and Lehigh coal districts shows miners through delegates to the United Mine Workers convention intend to begin action December 14 and refuse to be bound after April 1 next by any renewal of the Panthracite mine workers commission award unless operators agree to the union becoming a signatory party. In Odessa on November 1 a prison mutiny at Kichinell, Wesarabia, demanded freedom. When refused, inmates set fire to the jail. Troops fired on the mutineers, twenty two were killed and many wounded.

Young Girl Kidnapped From Prairie du Chien School

Agnes Peifer an 11 year old orphan and heiress was kidnapped from a Prairie du Chien Wisconsin school during recess. A closed carriage stopped at the playground and two men jumped out seized her and drove away before assistance could arrive. Police have been unable to locate the kidnappers or determine their motive.

Former congressman linked to Boston fraud case

Ferdinand E. Borges a former director and promoter of the Dicero Plantation company and William D. Owen of Indiana were indicted for defrauding investors of more than $25,000. Siberia Stranded off Honolulu With Damaged Propeller

The Pacific Mail steamer Siberia left the charter port when its propeller became entangled in a channel hawser and divers were dispatched to free it. In Topeka Kansas today the supreme court halted John J. Glover from pursuing a political bid as the rival for the Olathe mayoral seat. Ogg had sued Glover claiming a citizen action and the court ruled Glover must cease his campaign activities pending further action.

Courtmartial Ordered in Naval Death Case at Annapolis

Washington November 11 court martial ordered for the trial of Minor Meriweather Jr at Annapolis in connection with the death of Midshipman Branch after a fatal encounter. Fort Worth Texas also reports a wreck on the westbound Texas and Pacific line near Aledo with multiple fatalities and injuries. Mr James Piner dies today near Lexington in Johnson county.

Indicted U S Senator Burton in Bribery Probe

A federal grand jury in St. Louis indicted United States Senator Burton of Kansas on charges tied to Rialto Grain and Securities. The new indictment claims he received 300 in cash in St Louis and had agreed to take 200 a month, while not charging receipt for Washington funds. Roosevelt urged to oppose prohibition in new states

A Washington appeal from big brewers asks President Roosevelt to veto any provision in Oklahoma and Indian Territory statehood acts that would ban manufacture or sale of intoxicants.
