Charles Banning of Route 5 has been elected president of the Douglas County Farm Bureau. He farms 480 acres southwest of Lawrence with his son Warren and previously served two terms as Douglas County Sheriff and two terms as County Commissioner. Alvin Fishburn and Wesley Wulfkuhle were elected vice president and secretary treasurer respectively. Wulfkuhle is retiring president and was named one of 10 outstanding farm men in the state. The bureau has grown in activity with 929 members last year.

Mary R Wallace aged 67 of Route 1 died Tuesday at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Funeral at 2 p.m. Friday Rumsey Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Survived by husband Ben, two daughters Elnora Armstrong and Mable Meuffels, two sons Roy and Bennie Wallace, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren. Henry J Jost aged 83 former Mitchell South Dakota resident died Wednesday at Norris Rest Home. Graveside service 2 p.m. Friday Nebraska City cemetery. Rumsey Funeral Home arranged. He was survived by a niece Mrs Grant Eichorn.

Lawrence voters chose two constables in a write in challenge to KU affiliated candidates C E Hogan and Hampton Shirer winning 10 and nine votes.
