Farm tax bill could raise rural taxes and shift state aid

A land use expert warned use value assessment would boost homeowner taxes by as much as 85 percent after a general reappraisal while utility and cropland taxes shift. State aid to rural districts would rise or fall based on how use value is phased in, with Lawrence district expecting 2.7 million in state aid this year.

Lawrence approves paving Westdale Road and Centennial Drive

Enrollment study touts KU lead in state higher education

The Legislative Educational Planning Commission presents a Kansas university enrollment study showing Kansas University has the highest head count and full-time equivalents, the most credit hours, and the lowest student-faculty ratio. KU's Lawrence campus grew from 18 518 to 23 446, while KSU rose to 19 045. Emporia and Pittsburg declined.
