A call for 31 draftees from Douglas County to be inducted on November 24 was received by the selective service board. The order replaces a prior call for November 16 cancelled last week for lack of eligible men. Killed in Highway Crash Hays November 9. An auto wreck on the highway between Hays and Ellis killed Donald Schumacher, 15, and injured four companions, two seriously. Seriously injured were Jerry Gottschalk, 16, Joseph Betthauser, 14, Lloyd Brungardt, and Dean Dreiling. others escaped with minor injuries.
