Fire causes $50 damage to car seat in Lawrence

Firemen report an estimated $50 damage to the front seat of a car owned by Stanley Washington at 1607 W. Ninth after a cigarette sparked a seat fire. Dole Cancels Speech at Haskell Institute Veterans Day

U S Senator Robert Dole will not speak at the Haskell Institute Veterans Day program on Monday. Program chairman George Lauppe was notified by Dole's office on Friday. The 3 15 p m program will feature Rev I M Gjellstad pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Calf Die By Dog Pack Reported Near Lawrence Farm

A 400 pound calf was found dead on the I. J. Stoneback farm near 23rd Street. Stoneback suspects a dog pack after sightings in the area. Rene Stoneback found the carcass Thursday morning.

Lawrence Man Joining Patrol

George R. Bruce of 1211 W Fifth will be among 33 men named to the Kansas Highway Patrol on December 1. They will begin a three month training at the Patrol Academy in Salina and then serve six months of on the job training with a senior trooper before district assignments. Trooper Eric DeGraffenreidh will transfer from Baldwin to the Topeka area of the Kansas Turnpike as part of the staffing changes.
