Kansas University anthropologists examine a near intact female skeleton found near a creek bank with a dated pottery fragment possibly from A D 500 to 1000. Scientists expect carbon dating on nearby charcoal while the bones stay at KU's Museum of Anthropology.

Baker University receives 300000 endowment for American History chair

New Orleans gun rampage injures 10

Ten people were shot in the French Quarter and nearby areas in New Orleans within an hour. A suspect was taken into custody outside the Merrill Lynch office. no deaths reported though several victims were seriously wounded. Charity Hospital issued an urgent blood plea.

Football souvenir sparks brief West Stands fracas

During the KU KSU game at Memorial Stadium a Kansas State bench area football was tossed into the west stands by Mike Rainsberger son of Ellis Rainsberger. A Kansas State supporter attempted to recover it as police were summoned. The ball was returned and the boy headed to the Wildcats locker room after the game.

County moves toward computerized county bookkeeping

Douglas County officials begin work to computerize county bookkeeping to reduce manual input across the clerk, treasurer, budget office and related departments. The plan includes numbering accounts for computer use and aims for full implementation by Fiscal Year 1979 with schooling for staff.

Shrine Club elects Raybert Thornton president

Raybert Thornton of Route 3 Lawrence was elected president of the Lawrence Shrine Club at the regular monthly meeting. He will assume office January 1 and serves as manager of World Company Printing Service with farming and ranching interests in Jefferson County.
