West Coast fires threaten UCLA chancellor home

Dole Visits KU and Speaks to Young Republicans

Congressman Robert J. Dole spent the day at Kansas University meeting with Western Kansas students about the new combined First Congressional District. He will speak at 7 30 tonight in the Kansas Union, discuss national affairs, seek student views on the Peace Corps, and conduct a straw vote on 1964 presidential preferences.

October traffic crashes blamed on improper right of way

October saw 31 accidents from failure to yield the right of way, 15 for following too closely and 13 for speeding. A city crackdown on speeders began late in the month with good results. Lt. Evans attributed most crashes to drivers entering intersections without checking for oncoming traffic.

Hickman Mills Bank Is Robbed

A bandit robbed the Hickman Mills bank in Kansas City suburbs of about 44000 Monday night as two bank employees worked late on the bank books. Teller Gerald R. Gee 30 was leaving when the robber accosted him and pistol whipped him. Cashier Sylvia Hamilton, still inside, saw the gun at Gee and unlocked the front door to admit the intruder. The workers were tied up.

Primary Election Held by Kansas University Students

Kansas University students voted in a primary to choose All Student Council district representatives and freshman class officers. The general election is scheduled for November 14 and 15. ASC candidates align with Vox Populi or University Party, while freshman officers run unaffiliated.

Daegele Arraignment Set For Friday In Kidnap Rape Case

The November term docket was called and about 15 jury trials are planned. William George Daegele, 41, of St. Louis, is scheduled for arraignment at 9 30 a m Friday. He requested local counsel and Judge Frank Gray appointed Fred Six to represent him. Daegele faces kidnapping and rape charges involving a 12 year old Baldwin girl.
