Lawrence Community Shelter nears opening in new 15,000-foot home
Lawrence Community Shelter nears opening of a $3 million 15,000 square foot facility east of the Douglas County Jail on the city’s southeast side. The $3 million project is scheduled to be completed by December 21 with 125 beds, a dining room, day room, kitchen, and office space for partner agencies. An open house is planned December 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. The shelter aims to move in early January, replacing the current setup that uses mats and floor seating for guests in severe weather.
