Theodore Kaczynski’s manuscript Truth Versus Lies was halted at the printer after last minute legal concerns and Kaczynski’s attempts to void the Context Books deal. Publisher Beau Friedlander said Kaczynski's cooperation collapsed, delaying a 548 page work already at press. Congress OKs banking reform sweeping overhaul passes Congress

Congress clears a sweeping financial services reform bill aimed at tearing down barriers between banks, insurers, and investment firms. The Senate approved 90 to 8 and the House 362 to 57, with Clinton eager to sign despite opposition citing privacy and consumer risks. The measure removes long standing barriers, allows cross industry mergers, and imposes new privacy, data sharing, and disclosure rules while preserving some state protections. It also imposes ATM surcharge disclosures, clarifies non insured products, and ties expanded banking powers to community lending standards and thrift charter limits.
