British and French parachutists landed around Port Said as the Suez crisis escalated. A cease-fire was announced in the Egyptian theater as negotiations with Egyptian commanders began, while cabinet leaders and U.N. proposals loomed.

Democratic governor candidate George Docking says he intends to move to Wyandotte County when he retires. He notes Wyandotte’s Democratic leanings and adds Kansas would be better if all counties were as fully Democratic as Wyandotte.
