Lawrence considers land trust plan to reduce buyer costs
Lawrence negotiating a city backed land trust to strip land costs from home purchases. The plan would transfer about 500000 from the housing trust fund to the new Lawrence Community Land Trust and shift 250000 yearly federal funds from HOOT to support 20 to 30 participants. Critics warn of limited resale value and lost full ownership while supporters say it preserves affordability long term.
