The Duchess of Windsor was questioned in New York after the Woodwards were found shot. Mrs Woodward killed her husband after a party at which the duchess had spoken to them. Police gathered statements as the couple, living in separate bedrooms, slept with a shotgun present. The duchess described the Woodwards as an ideal couple.
The Western Big Three pressed for a free choice reunified Germany while Harold Macmillan warned of an increasingly explosive situation if unity is delayed. Molotov insisted the Western alliance be demolished before any settlement. The talks yielded no clear path to a solution despite over two hours of debate.

Murray B. Spencer 76 of Valley Falls died Thursday at his son Albert Spencer’s home in Atchison. A retired farmer, he is survived by his wife Edna Spencer of the home and two brothers Scott Spencer of Oskaloosa and Herbert Spencer of Valley Falls. Services will be p.m. Saturday at Hagge Funeral Home Valley Falls with burial in Valley Falls Cemetery.
Robert Earl Mullin Jr. six year old son of Robert Earl Mullin Sr and Mrs Mullin dies at Stormont Vail in Topeka after a year long illness. Survived by parents sister Vickie Lynn brothers William Albert Richard Allen grandparents Earl Mullin and Albert Randall and great grandfather E F Mullin. Funeral at Rumsey Funeral Home Monday at 1 pm Rev Lynn Hodges to officiate burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Walter Heck 40 of Route 4 was reported in good condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after leg and ankle fractures from a farm shed wind accident. He fell from a roof while rolling fire hose, crawled to a pickup, and drove home before being treated. Casts cover his right leg from toe to hip and left from toe to knee.
The Douglas County Rural Elementary School Band of 78 players from 15 schools performed at Crane Junior High School in Topeka before Kansas State Teachers Association delegates. Directed by Mrs. Veda Stanton, the group with 18 instruments included strings wind brass and percussion. Accompanist was Mrs Grace Waner.
Damage estimated at 1600 from four accidents in the Lawrence area left no serious injuries. Rudolph Feilmeier of Carroll Iowa sideswiped a parked car on US 24-10 north east of Lawrence. $400 damage. A Thursday three car collision on Highway K-10 east of Eudora caused $850 damage. drivers suffered minor injuries. An 8 a.m. alley crash at 820 Tenn St caused $125 damage to a car driven by William Osburn. no injuries. A Thursday crash on 1045 High Dr involving Duane Estes caused $215 damage to two parked cars. Estes uninjured.
Police have no new information on two safe burglaries at Winter Chevrolet Co. and Bill Bodin Inc. Thursday night into Friday morning with over 700 dollars stolen from the two local dealers. Investigators note it may be the first successful safe-cracking in Lawrence in about a year and say about 250 dollars were stolen last November from Kaw Motors.
Charles Marshall of 1214 N J St was bound over to District Court on a felonious worthless check charge after a preliminary hearing. He allegedly cashed a $25 worthless check at 4 Litwin's, 831 Mass St, while already serving a 60 day jail term for a previous misdemeanor check.
The U S Civil Service Commission announces an examination to fill the Linwood postmaster post. Applications must be postmarked by Nov 29 and filed with the Commission in Washington. The salary is 3460 dollars yearly.
State Highway Commission opened bids at Yates Center showing total 86296 for the Wakarusa River bridge north of Eudora. Jensen Brothers Construction Co. of Sioux City Iowa led at 62520 for the bridge and Ammnon and Krage Construction Co. of Kansas City Kansas led grading at 23776. The project replaces an iron bridge with a 260 foot concrete span and grades adjoining road by five feet to match the new level. Costs will be shared: half federal, a quarter county, a quarter city of Eudora.

Bunny Black owner of the Royal College Shop 837 Mass St was listed in fair condition today at Lawrence Memorial Hospital He entered the hospital Wednesday evening A hospital spokesman said he will remain for several days and as of now is permitted no visitors An associate said he entered for a checkup

Two men wearing burnt cork masks robbed the First National Bank of Cement Oklahoma this afternoon. They held the cashier at gunpoint and escaped with an undetermined amount of cash. Police said the suspects fled in a waiting car. The bank and local authorities launched a search for the perpetrators.

Kansas City, Missouri engineer student Joseph D. Breazeal and Rafael S. Diez of Sancti Spiritus Cuba were awarded Ruth and Carl V. Rice scholarships for their final two years at Kansas University. Each grant is 675 dollars yearly plus 75 dollars monthly while in school and a summer job at Rupert Diecasting Co. in Kansas City. Awards reflect scholarship leadership and technical ability. Rice, a Kansas City attorney and inventor, founded the awards to aid students familiar with zinc and aluminum diecasting.

Three persons were fined in County Court for vehicle violations. Edward A. Tanney Jr. of Kansas City Kansas faced a $5 fine plus costs for no fire extinguisher in a truck. Ellias Wilbert King of Baldwin was fined $10 plus costs for passing in a no passing zone. Joseph Carl Almsberger of Mission received $5 plus costs for no daily record on track.
