With 99 percent of Kansas ballots counted Douglas County leaned toward Ford with 51.3 percent and Carter 42.8 percent. McCarthy drew 5 percent statewide but over 10 percent in the county as 1,355 voted for him. Incumbent congressman Winn led the county with 61.3 percent while Rhoads earned 36.5 percent locally.

Packer Plastics gains initial approval for 875000 bonds

Lawrence city commissioners in a rapid session gave initial approval to Packer Plastics Inc for issuing 875000 in industrial revenue bonds to add a 50000 square foot warehouse and 250000 in new machinery. The project aims to add 10 to 12 permanent jobs.
