General Session Ends Kansas Teachers Convention in Allen Fieldhouse
The final day of the Kansas State Teachers Assn convention concluded with a second general assembly in Allen Fieldhouse. Delegates cast final ballots to elect two area representatives to the KSTA Board of Directors and Mrs Mary Hughes Wessx sought a one year term. Dr Joe A Chandler of Washington University gave the keynote address on solving problems in education. Max Archer was presented as the new area vice president for 1968. The Lawrence High School A Cappella Choir performed and a Lawrence church pastor gave the invocation. Kansas music educators met for business and workshops and a homebound program panel was held with several Lawrence educators. Twenty four booths showcased textbooks and equipment to fund convention costs.

Kansas teachers condemn Gov Docking on 104 percent budget rule
In a 117 to 0 vote, 127 delegates representing over 7,000 teachers from the Lawrence area denounced Gov. Docking's stance on maintaining the 104 percent school budget limit. Delegates said education funding must rise and local control be preserved as state aid remains imperative. Similar resolutions were expected from Wichita and Topeka assemblies.

KU Students Injured in Rock Chalk Cafe Fight
Two Kansas University students were wounded in a Thursday night disturbance near the Rock Chalk Cafe at 618 West 12th Street. Thomas Bradley, 19, remained in satisfactory condition at Watkins Hospital with head lacerations and a concussion while Wesley Williams, 18, suffered a minor knife wound to the leg. Both injured students are Pi Kappa Alpha brothers. Police reported the incident began when cafe staff attempted to eject a juvenile, who allegedly threatened with a knife before fleeing with others as windows on their car were broken during the disturbance. No arrests were made.

Wet Pavements Cause Injuries In Two Lawrence Area Crashes
Two auto accidents on the Kansas Turnpike in Douglas County left two injured and about 1000 in damage. Beulah Washington 47 Kansas City Kansas suffered head injuries and cuts and Henry Himes 60 Kansas City Kansas was hurt. A second crash near the Lawrence service area involved 17 year old Ronnell Wheeler of Topeka whose car hit a sign. Wheeler was uninjured and his car sustained about 450 in damage.

Man Arraigned In Stolen Auto Case In West Lawrence
Tony Calvin Thompson, 22, of Modesto California, was arraigned on interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle after a police search in west Lawrence. He waived preliminary hearing, posted no bond, and remains in U.S. Marshal custody. The 1962 car was stolen from Carson City and brought to Lawrence. Thompson is an Army deserter and previously charged with credit card fraud. Citizens aided police in the arrest at 1207 Iowa Street.
