Record Absentee Ballots Reach High Count in Douglas County
A record number of more than 600 out of state absent ballots were mailed to Douglas County residents for the general election. Deputy County Clerk Delbert Mathia noted 448 regular absentee ballots and about 160 war ballots by mail. Ballots returned exceed 80 percent so far, higher than August primary. Polls open Tuesday from 6 am to 7 pm in the city and 8 am to 6 pm in townships. Counting boards total 12 in city plus 12 receiving boards. Final city registration reached 11,678 with precinct totals listed. The Journal-World office will stay open all night Tuesday as results are compiled.
