The FAA says 565 federally regulated U S airports meet Year 2000 safety and security requirements based largely on self reports, with about 650 carriers yet to respond. Results to be posted midmonth on the agency web site as officials acknowledge partial verification.
Republican frontrunner George W. Bush sustained minor injuries to his right leg and hip when a truck trailer overturned on a parallel street to Town Lake in downtown Austin during a 12:06 p.m. run. DPS agent Roscoe Hughey, accompanying Bush, also suffered minor bruises. Bush was treated at the scene and later continued to Manchester New Hampshire for a campaign swing. The driver’s actions and cause were under investigation with no charges filed as of Monday evening.
The Walt Disney Co plans a 3.2 billion project to build Hong Kong Disneyland on Lantau Island with a 57 43 joint venture between Hong Kong and Disney. The deal aims to revive tourism, create up to 18 400 jobs, and draw 5 million visitors in year one, rising to 15 million annually in a decade.
An 18th century violin by Guarner del Gesu, Cremona 1742, owned by the late Yehudi Menuhin, sold in Zurich to an unidentified collector. Musik Hug declined disclosure, saying the price was about 1.25 million dollars above prior records. The sale follows Christie's London note of a Stradivarius at 1.58 million dollars. Menuhin died in March at 82.
A study in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society shows subconscious exposure to positive aging words improves walking speed in adults aged 63 to 82. Participants who saw words like wise or accomplished walked 9 percent faster and swung their feet less, suggesting mindsets shape physical function.
