Rates Cut for Long Distance Calls Across Kansas
Kansas telephone customers will save over 900000 dollars annually under a new inter state long distance rate schedule that takes effect Wednesday. Southwestern Bell Telephone Co manager George Orrell says most station to station and person to person calls beyond 468 miles see lower charges. Night rate hours shift to seven p.m. to seven a.m. daily with all day Saturdays and holidays covered. A new midnight to seven a.m. rate caps a three minute call at 75 cents. Some interstate calls within 24 miles may rise, but increases do not exceed five cents for the initial period.

Construction of a 100 unit Ramada Inn motel complex is planned to start mid 1968 pending final financing. The site between Iowa and Rockledge Road on West Sixth Street will include a restaurant a guest club two banquet rooms a swimming pool and a possible Kansas University Faculty Club quarters. Six Year Old Girl Struck By Car In Maine Street Incident
A six year old girl Pamela L Hellstrom of 825 Maine Street was injured Wednesday afternoon when struck at 12 12 pm near 728 Maine Street. The car was driven by Roger A Rawlings 23 of Colorado Springs Colorado. The child ran in front of the auto and suffered minor injuries.

Two Men Injured in Leavenworth County Car Crash
Two people were hospitalized after a two car collision on U S Highway 2440, eight miles northwest of Lawrence in Leavenworth County. William E. Rice, 18, of Tonpanoxic, suffered severe cuts and head injuries. Carl Marshall, 52, of 2302 Manchester, had cuts and bruises. Both cars damaged beyond repair. Rice swerved to avoid a pony, lost control, and collided with Marshall’s east bound car. Citizens Ambulance of Lawrence transported both to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
