Jury Finds Brodie Guilty of First Degree Robbery
Steve Brodie a 30 year old Topeka man was found guilty by a district court jury after about an hour of deliberation on the robbery charge for holding up and taking 25 from Elmer Enlow at the Standard Oil station on May 16. Brodie also faced a forgery case that will not be tried after this conviction. The trial featured Brodie representing himself with aid from appointee Oscar Learnard. Enlow testified that he identified Brodie as the robber who tied him and struck him with a gun. Police testified about the jacket and shoe found and about arresting Brodie five days after the incident. Brodie claimed the wound came from a rifle accident. The court adjourned civil cases to begin November 15 after the docket.
