Would-be Chicago backpack bomber sentenced to 23 years
Sami Samir Hassoun, a 25 year old Lebanese immigrant, received a 23 year prison sentence after admitting to placing a backpack he believed to contain a bomb near Wrigley Field. Prosecutors showed undercover footage and described the device as capable of destroying a city block, a comparison to the Boston Marathon attack used by the judge. Hassoun cried, apologized, and pledged to improve, while his mother expressed love.
