Colorado search intensifies for police killers
Three men armed with automatic weapons killed a police officer during a traffic stop and wounded two others in a running gun battle. National Guard helicopters joined state and federal officers in a wide search across rugged canyon country of southwestern Colorado near the Utah line. The fugitives, believed to be on foot in Cross Canyon about 50 miles northwest of Cortez, prompted Gov. Roy Romer to deploy National Guard forces, calling the pursuit very intensive and promising results.
