Woodring Emphasizes Peace Role as Secretary of War
Washington May 31 Secretary of War Harry H. Woodring says he is a man of peace while proud of the army’s growth under his five year tenure. He stresses the army’s primary purpose as peace insurance and notes advances in aviation, ground forces modernization, and rapid mobilization plans. He cites the new competitive system for procuring airplanes and says 2,320 aircraft expected by 1940 will boost global competitiveness. Woodring, a former World War private and Kansas governor, prefers a businesslike routine and enjoys family time when in the capital.
