A black 1932 Chevrolet coach driven by escaped convicts stopped at a filling station in Eudora around noon today. Two men in blue suits stood on the running boards and seven or eight in blue denim were inside the car. The driver bought five gallons of gasoline for a dollar, insisting the change be kept, and the group sped south on highway 10. Local witnesses described tense behavior and noted the guards appeared to have their heads inside the rear windows. No firearms were seen. John Rothberger reported the driver was excited and urged haste.
