Memorial Day Reflections and Editorial Notes
Memorial Day reflections honor the dead and their sacrifices across wars. A Lawrence minister argues for liberal arts training for future clergy, stressing general education as essential for ministry. The piece also notes Kansas senator's sly humor about cigarettes and filibuster tactics in the Senate.
Limits Of The Inquiry Into Hussey Charges
Two elements stand out in Hussey's reply to witnesses before the legislative committee probing the Public Service Commission. Some countercharges he makes are confirmed by the attorney general, while the committee's role favors selective disclosure. The piece notes how inquiry differs from a trial, with the panel able to pick which facts appear in its record, possibly omitting the full truth. Editor Roberts critiques state-office allocations and lampoons a Senator Curtis letter aiding cigarette advertising, tied to local campaign prospects.
