The Lawrence Humane Society organizes a two day garage sale fundraiser on June 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3813 Greenway Drive East Hills Business Park. No more donations will be accepted at the shelter. contact 843-6835 to arrange donations. Proceeds go to the Lawrence Humane Society.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will hold free sound muffling inspections at Perry Lake from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Perry Marina boat ramp and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Rock Creek Marina. Boats exceeding the 91 decibel limit will not be cited. For details contact RDWP Region 2 Office or Officer Ryan Smidh.
Lawrence hosts Alexs Lemonade Stand Foundation event June 6 and 7 to raise funds for pediatric cancer research. Stands at Hy-Vee stores on Clinton Parkway and West Sixth Street operate 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a Kansas City area goal of eighty five thousand dollars.

A $700,000 Wal-Mart Foundation grant funds KU Center for Research on Learning to adapt two academic-support programs for use in the Boys & Girls Clubs Power Hour after-school tutoring. Governor Kathleen Sebelius and KU officials joined donors at Wal-Mart in Lawrence for the presentation.
Lawrence school board proposes a 3.4 percent raise costing $1.54 million, including $556,166 for current-teacher boosts and $89,854 extra. LEA seeks a 5.6 percent rise costing about $2.2 million, arguing districts pay more. Negotiations consider planning time and a new retirement plan as part of offers.
