Terracing Clears Fields of Erosion say Kansas farmers
Don Churchbaugh and Delbert Flory showcase gradient and parallel terraces on about 467 acres south of Lawrence along U S Highway 59. The Douglas County Soil Conservation Service sponsors the June Neighbor to Neighbor tour. Terraces reduce gullies and silts, conserve water, and require ongoing maintenance. Churchbaugh notes terraces complicate farming while Flory praises their long term effectiveness and low upkeep.
