Holdup defendant drawn into two prison terms

District Court Judge James W. Paddock sentenced James L. Simmons to two concurrent prison terms for illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and attempted aiding and abetting an aggravated robbery. Simmons pleaded guilty and was arrested February 14 with two others after an armed robbery of Jayhawk Food Mart.

Atha Gift Helps Religion Center At Kansas University

Mrs. Joseph S. Atha of Kansas City provides a gift to furnish the Joseph S. Atha Memorial Study Center in Smith Hall at the Kansas School of Religion. The unit will serve as headquarters for the Public Education Religion Studies Center and aid religion students and faculty with furnishings, equipment, microfiche, films, and books. The KU religion library serves over 1,000 students annually.

Pennsylvania site chosen for VW assembly plant

West German automaker VW tentatively picked New Stanton Pennsylvania over Brook Park Ohio for a Rabbit assembly plant. Gov. Shapp says VW will sign after Pennsylvania offers an eight chapter financial package including highway and rail upgrades and bonds, with a 30 year commitment and 2000 initial jobs.
