The Office of Federal Procurement Policy outlined a shift to commercial off the shelf products to replace government stamped items. President budget savings cited may reach 66 billion dollars in 1976 with potential 80 million annual savings on electronic test equipment.
The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for N.R. Hamm Quarry Inc. to open a 90 acre limestone quarry southeast of Eudora by a 6-3 vote. The panel attached seven conditions including annual reviews and possible five year termination, with final approval due from the Douglas County Commission.
Davis, a KU law professor and general counsel, will resign after 37 months on the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission and two years as chairman. He plans to stay active on the city plan as a private citizen. A new chairman and vice chairman will be chosen at the June 23 meeting.
Chester N. Bell 18 Edwardsville and Charles L. Cline 21 Bonner Springs were charged in Douglas County Court with Wednesday's Seven Eleven Food Store robbery. A preliminary hearing is set for 2:30 p.m. June 7. both remain in jail on 15000 bond. Police hold two unnamed juveniles. a small-caliber pistol and cash were recovered. Detective Lt. Kenneth Harmon noted the total cash amount is pending a store cash inventory.
Kent Frizzell former Kansas attorney general and under secretary of Interior said he will resign after the fall election to join Tulsa University to teach law at a new National Energy Law and Policy Institute. He denied policy disputes with Secretary Tom Kleppe and noted possible other resignations without links to policy.
KU department chairs say most cheating is handled by individual professors and not formal disciplinary action. They report few incidents yearly, mostly in large classes with 200 to 300 students, and plagiarism seen as less widespread than at military academies.
