Development group backs out of Journal-World site sale
The plan to sell the former Journal-World printing plant to a local development group led by Mike Treanor and Doug Compton fell apart just before closing. The six block site from Sixth and Massachusetts to Sixth and New Hampshire, plus adjacent land, returns to market, inviting outside developers or alternatives at the downtown Lawrence site owned by the Simons family. Dan Simons says redevelopment potential remains strong and valuable for downtown Lawrence.
