KU Med professor faces administrative hearing
Kansas University Medical Center pharmacology expert Curtis Klaassen faces an administrative hearing Tuesday to decide whether disciplinary action is warranted for alleged professional misconduct. Klaassen seeks a federal court halt, claiming lack of opportunity to cross examine witnesses. KU officials say procedures were followed and a six member faculty committee will determine if misconduct occurred.

Complaints rise over door-to-door solicitors in Lawrence
Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said the office is reviewing allegations that security alarm solicitors, claimed to be with Devcon Security, were misrepresenting affiliations to gain access to homes. Police report about a dozen similar complaints. Pinnacle Security applied for licenses and faced a Missouri lawsuit in 2011. Residents may cancel within three business days. complaints can be filed with police or the consumer protection unit.

VFW Post 852 Lawrence will lead an 11 a.m. ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery with an all Iraq Afghanistan Honor Guard and an Iraq War veteran speaker. County commissioner Nancy Thellman filed Friday to pursue a second term in Douglas County. The Democrat from northeast of Lawrence represents the 2nd District including North Lawrence and parts of Lawrence, Eudora, Baldwin City and eastern Douglas County. Thellman, a Presbyterian minister and former nurse, touted four years on the commission and promised responsible tax dollar use, open government and balanced growth. Primary set for August 7 if needed. general election November 6.
