Raeder Warns Convoys Will Be Open War
Berlin May 26 UPI German navy chief Admiral Erich Raeder warned that American convoy systems to England would be an open war act and would be met with force if necessary. He said convoys would not neutralize the war, and German ships would act to protect contraband cargoes while calling for a halt to the patrol system he described as aiding Britain.

Gresham’s Law and Early Banknote Circulation in Boston
The document explains Gresham’s Law where poorer money drives out better money, citing Queen Elizabeth’s coiner and silver shillings later melted by silversmiths. It also notes the Wisconsin Marine and Fire Insurance Company’s charter barred banking yet enabled deposits and loans, and its deposit certificates circulated widely as representative money. Before Suffolk Bank reforms, Boston merchants used country bank notes, saving on value while better Boston notes left circulation.
