Kansas Rail Rates Case Moves Before Interstate Commission
The Kansas railroad commission, via attorney F G Grattan, filed no intervention to aid the interstate commerce commission in the Kansas City Commercial club suit against twenty one southern and southwestern railroads. The club seeks to protect Kansas City as a grain marketing center and harmonize direct Kansas wheat center rates to Gulf points with onward routing. The commission intervenes to prevent undermining the present direct rate and cites Kansas grain interests, mills, elevators, and state passage. The ICC quote contends southern Kansas rates should not be set with Kansas City and should be reasonably reviewed as independent propositions.
