Dewey Likely To Fall Short On First Ballot
The Republican national convention in Chicago will open in two days with Indiana and Nevada still to select state delegates. Dewey has pledged support from 895 delegates, leaving 40 uncommitted but not enough to secure a first ballot nomination unless key states Pennsylvania and California shift to him. Pennsylvania has 70 uninstructed delegates. California has 50 delegates released by Earl Warren. Bricker claims influence within California as Warren distances himself from the race.
