Committee Approves Plan For Added Taxes
Washington May 22 AP On a 13 to 9 vote the house ways and means committee approved a program to raise income and gasoline taxes and tax corporate dividends. It would lift the normal income tax rate from 4 to 6 percent for incomes under four thousand and from 8 to 10 percent for higher incomes, and tax corporate dividends to fund a 3.3 billion public works employment bond issue. An additional one half of one percent per gallon gasoline tax would raise about 92 million, totaling 221 million.
