Peace in Orient wage fight seen

Wichita May 22 The possibility of a peaceful settlement in the wage dispute between the Kansas City Mexico and Orient railroad and its employees appeared likely today as both management and workers welcomed the president’s fact finding board. The four brotherhood strike, once set for June 27, may be avoided if offers are accepted or the dispute moves under the railway labor act. The Orient reported revenue gains but noted prior financial strain. Local engineers leader Charles Ayler said if recommendations follow the committee, negotiations may resume. ELH Shabfler, Orient general manager, affirmed cooperation with the president and committee decisions.
