Man arrested after west Lawrence gunfire incident
A 48 year old Lawrence man, Joshua Evan Townsend of 1951 Heatherwood Drive, was arrested at 4 am Saturday on suspicion of second degree attempted murder after police responded to multiple gunshots on Heatherwood Drive. Officers and a Tactical Team established a perimeter, entered the house, and found Townsend unharmed. The 29 year old victim reported being targeted but was not injured and fired back with his own weapon.

Lawrence man charged with sexual exploitation of a child
Larry Dale Athey Jr., 43, was charged in Douglas County District Court with a single felony count of sexual exploitation of a child by possessing a nude photo of a minor. The incident is alleged to have occurred on or about April 22, 2022. Athey was arrested at his Melrose Lane home after a warrant was served. He received a $25,000 own-recognizance bond and internet use is prohibited as a bond condition. Status conference set for June 21.
