Senate House tax talks stall as House backs tax plan shift
Senate negotiators prepared to accept a House offer while House Republicans pull back from a full repeal. Steven Johnson said their focus shifts to a new tax package that Brownback might back, a “kitchen sink” plan including income and sales taxes, alcohol or tobacco levies, higher motor fuels taxes, and possibly a larger school property tax. Democrats led by Tom Holland demand cost estimates for the budget and school finance before voting. The 94th day of a 100 day session sees stalled negotiations with no tax bill pending in either chamber.
