Fire debris sent to lab after KU dorm blaze arson suspected
Items from a McCollum Hall fire were transported Thursday to a private laboratory in Topeka for analysis. Lawrence Fire Chief Kasberger said arson is a strong possibility in the Wednesday 3:30 a.m. laundry room blaze on the fifth floor west wing, which caused over $2,000 in damage from smoke. The KU residence has had seven fires this year, with arson suspected in three, according to KU Traffic and Security Director Mike Thomas.

Retiring After 28 Years Dinner Honors Professor Hall
Kansas University zoologist E Raymond Hall was honored at a Thursday night dinner in the Kansas Union as he retires after 28 years as teacher administrator and researcher. About 50 colleagues and friends attended from Wichita Topeka Kansas City and Chicago area family members. Hall led KU zoology from 1944 to 1961 and headed the Museum of Natural History from 1944 to 1967. He will continue research at KU and may teach part time elsewhere staying active in the field.
