Roosevelt Opposes Spending-Lending Plan From Stabilization Fund
President Roosevelt dismissed reports of a new spending lending program using part of the $2 billion stabilization fund to aid business. The plan would reportedly release $1.5 billion for a nationwide home building effort, extend loans to small firms, ease social security benefits, insure utility loans, lower construction loan rates, purchase rail equipment, and set up a new agency to manage the funds. Senators Wagner and Penner, Ecclés, and Leon Henderson were named as involved, with changes likely before submission to the White House and Congress.
