Baptists Fail to Meet Benevolence Goal in Kansas
Kansas Baptists reported about 110000 raised for benevolences last fiscal year, but the goal was not reached. Of this total about 96000 came from member churches, with funds from the Northern Baptist convention and Lone Star fund contributing the rest. A large portion supports Sunset Home in Concordia and state church work, with 65000 aiding pastors in non self supporting fields and 5000 for missions and education. The board met in Topeka with W C Simons and Dr J F Watts in attendance. A strong procedural vote backed state and national prohibition.

Western railroads face rate increases as earnings lag
Washington, May 19. Western railroads have earned well below a fair 5 percent return over the last five years, totaling a shortfall of 983,874,668. R N Vandoren, vice president of the Chicago and Northwestern, argued before the Interstate Commerce Commission that a general 5 percent rate increase is needed. He cited 1921 to 1925 returns and noted investment growth in 1925, saying much of the net revenue gain would be consumed by expanded property investments and that some railroads risk receivership without relief.
