Kansas approves energy bill ending renewable portfolio standard
Environmental groups voice disappointment as Senate Bill 91 passes, scrapping the 20 percent renewable portfolio standard by 2020 for a voluntary goal. The measure, urged by wind interests and groups like Koch Industries, would cut renewable tax exemptions to 10 years and face Gov. Brownback’s signature. Critics cite job gains and investment spurred by the current law, while supporters tout market choice and reduced regulation.
