KU establishes Student Advocate to aid struggling students
Rasnak fills a new part time role at the University of Kansas to guide students through academics and bureaucracy. Since spring, she has helped about 120 students, with a third facing long term illness and 25 percent affected by family loss. She directs students to the right offices, arranges make up tests, and provides personal introductions to faculty, aiming to ease the information overload of college life. The position, modeled after Indiana University, may expand as referrals grow, with Rasnak hoping for a permanent advocate presence on campus.
