Headless corpse found on North Lawrence tracks

Lawrence Police identified a headless Caucasian man found along Union Pacific railroad tracks in North Lawrence near Eighth Street. The body appeared on the tracks within 24 hours with an apparent neck injury described as from the train. A green SUV was seen nearby earlier.

Trial ordered in fatal accident at Sixth and Wakarusa

In Douglas County District Court Brandon Gentry, 30, faced a preliminary hearing for involuntary manslaughter in Shyra McGee's death after a Feb. 4 crash at Sixth Street and Monterey Way. John McGee, 25, testified he saw two headlights before the collision and that Shyra McGee, 23, died later at KU Medical Center. Amber Sellers, 20, suffered a broken arm. Prosecutors said Gentry’s BAC was .28 percent after drinking about 15 beers. A jury trial is set for Sept. 25.
