Wednesdy night Powerball tickets did not match all six numbers. A $38.2 million jackpot would have gone to those matching five numbers plus the Powerball, with five tickets winning $100,000 for matching the first five numbers without the Powerball. Winners were sold in Connecticut, Missouri, Montana, and New Hampshire.
An Ohio rail worker tried to stop a hazardous freight train that escaped a railyard after the throttle was hit instead of the brake. The engineer was dragged 80 feet and fell as the 47 car train rolled for two hours at speeds up to 50 mph, with rail workers racing to board the locomotive but unable to catch it.
York Mayor Char lie Robertson surrendered on a murder charge tied to the 1969 shooting death of Lillie Belle Allen during race riots. An affidavit cites co-defendant Rick Knouse saying Robertson supplied ammunition and urged killings. Robertson, a former police officer, was arraigned, released on 50000 dollar bond, and a May 25 preliminary hearing was set.
In Chicago a motorcyclist Daemond Rogan, 32, was cited for speeding in a 40 mph zone after Officer Maurice Burks clocked 160 mph on Lake Shore Drive. The rider, driving a 1999 Honda CBR 600F4, was confirmed to top near 165 mph by a local dealer. Authorities noted the radar unit’s reliability and logged the record as the fastest speed the radar team recalls.
