Washington May 18 AP Lewis W. Douglas budget director told the house ways and means committee that prompt prohibition repeal would bring an annual 250 million dollars to the federal treasury. He noted taxes on beer, spirits and other items and outlined four tax plans to fund a 3.3 billion public works program, warning borrowing would be necessary for non self liquidating projects.

A May night tornado damaged farms between Burle and Allen in northern Lyon county Emposia Kansas. A farm wagon carrying Lee Rowley and her two children was hurled fifty feet. the horses were tossed into the air. Mrs Rowley and her children were slightly injured. Charles Denning’s farm lost outbuildings and a windmill. At Harry McGinnis farm part of a two story house was wrecked and livestock killed. The McGinnises sheltered in a basement and were uninjured. Rain totals ranged from 0.25 to 4 inches across nearby areas.

Two Horses Recovered After Ottawa Theft
Two horses stolen from C. C. Coen near Ottawa were recovered at a Harper barn sale in North Lawrence. George Pierson of Ottawa was arrested and handed to Franklin county authorities to face charges.
