Lynden Kansas May 1. Mrs Phelps Wafed D Phelps fatally burned preparing fuel for a gas stove. She poured a quart of fluid into an open measure and lit it, clothes caught fire. Her husband, sick in bed, tried to smother the flames with a blanket but failed. She died last night after untold agony.
Chicago May 1 evidences accumulate that strike conditions near arbitration. Team owners association and Teamsters union appoint an arbitration committee to ease the controversy. Gompers and Levy Mayer represented employers while Stieglitz of the Teamsters urged peace moves. A fourth hour conference failed to settle but set another meeting today.
